Why do some supervisors confuse their workers with vague, contradictory suggestions while others support their charges with vision and assistance and help them build their own path to success?</p>
<p>It boils down to good ol&#8217; human interaction &#8211; a subject somewhat out of vogue since the advent of the motherboard &#8211; but guess what? It ain&#8217;t going away. Without good clear human connectivity, a mile-high stack of computers won&#8217;t save your company from faltering.</p>
<p>So here is our list of steps you can take to improve your business communication.</p>
<ol>
<li>Remember your vision. You are doing things for a reason. What is it? When you remember why you are doing something and can really feel its importance, that is the time to share your vision with others. Encourage them to speak of their vision for the future. Charge each other up with thoughts of where you want to go. Catch a buzz from envisioning the big picture.</li>
<li>Keep the vision alive. People will get mired down with the day to day. Find times to stoke the dream, even informally.</li>
<li>When a mutual vision is established and accepted, it is time to talk about how to get there. These talks have two distinct parts: brainstorming and action planning. In brainstorming, you share ideas about what kinds of actions can get you to your goal. But these ideas should be loose and a little wacky. <li>Review and analyze results and make necessary adjustments. Then build on the good and drop the bad.</li>
<li>Do not stigmatize failure. Remember that failure is necessary for success. If you can really internalize this idea, you will be able to fearlessly and logically parse the good and bad in your plan. If you truly embrace failure as a part of the success process, you will be able to make the review/analysis phase engaging, creative and extremely useful.</li>

<p>Indeed, I&#8217;d like to take this opportunity to talk about something that most franchisors do not discuss. In fact it is not something that is taught in CFE management courses with the International Franchise Association. Nevertheless it has been my experience as a franchisor founder that there are certain issues which should be addressed with regards to very devout religious people in franchising. First, very devout religious folks will usually pray to their God and look for a sign prior to buying a franchise.</p>
<p>For someone who is an agnostic working with the franchising organization, they may not understand this, but it is very much in keeping with the psychology of religious folks. Indeed, many types of companies such as; small business opportunities, multilevel marketing companies, and franchising companies in their sales departments target religious folks as potential buyers. Often, without knowing it, but I would submit to you the reason this occurs naturally is because someone who believes in a God with all their heart, and follows a religious organization may also be able to believe very strongly in a brand name, and a large and strong company organization.</p>
<p>In many regards it&#8217;s the same mindset, so it comes naturally, and it&#8217;s unfortunate more people don&#8217;t talk about it, but I can tell you in my many years of franchising I have seen this play out more than once. Nevertheless franchisees must also follow the confidential operations manual and the franchisor&#8217;s business model exactly. If the franchisee starts talking to their God, and looking for signs, and then trying to alter the franchise system in any way because it doesn&#8217;t fit with their religious motif, then problems can occur.</p>
<p>At some point a franchisee is going to have to decide if they are willing to trust their God, or religion, or the franchisor&#8217;s business model, business plan, and confidential operations manual. The good thing about those who are followers in a flock or religion is that normally they do as they&#8217;re told, and seek strength from the group, and their God. In a franchising organization, you could say that the franchisor becomes the God, and a franchising company becomes their support group or flock, which is filled with other franchisees just like them.</p>
<p>If a franchisor, their area reps, their vendors, or neighboring franchisees appear to be less than ethical to a devout religious franchisee, then that franchisee will no longer see the franchisor as good, but rather think of them as just another evil in the world. Someone that is that devout and righteous can easily become a rogue franchisee, if things aren&#8217;t explained to them properly. These are all very serious issues, and they are part of the dynamics of our population, but they are also very much a part of the franchising organization.</p>
<p>Also, remember that a franchisor cannot discriminate against highly religious devout individuals, and has to offer their franchising opportunities to anyone that qualifies on an equal basis. This is why franchisors need to manage the situation and consider all of this, and I do hope you will think on it.</p>

We often got tips, and I quickly realized that I needed to share those tips with the rest of the crew. As the crew leader, truck manager, and sole proprietor, generally the customer would give me the tip, and it was very easy for me to put in my pocket and forget about it. However, those tips should be distributed amongst the rest of the crew.</p>
<p>After I franchised my company, I made sure that I put this into the confidential operations manual. You see, I wanted the franchisees to realize the power of those tips from the customers, because it increased customer service, and made employees care more. When the employees know they are getting the tips they are more likely to give better service, and be more polite to the customer. In doing so this also causes more referrals and increased business from each and every customer.</p>
<p>If you go into a Starbucks you&#8217;ll notice there is a tip jar, and when someone puts money in the tip jar that money is distributed amongst all the employees at Starbucks, based on the numbers of hours they&#8217;d worked. This is the fair way to do it, and if each employee knows that they make more money each week, even if it&#8217;s only $5-$10 in additional tips, they are liable to give better service to each of us customers in line when we are ordering our Frappachinos. Do you see that point?</p>
<p>What I find very interesting, as now that I retired I do a little franchise consulting, and I often produce franchise manuals for franchising companies, is that many of the franchisors aren&#8217;t thinking here, yet so many of them run a mobile service businesses, or companies that survive and thrive other customer service. And when they don&#8217;t give good customer service, those franchised outlets fail. <p>As a former franchisor, now retired, I often think back about the relationships I&#8217;ve built with our franchisees when we first got going. It seems to me that our first 25 to 50 franchisees were all on my speed dial, I knew them all by name, as well as their families, and even their pets. However, as the franchise company grew larger and larger, I didn&#8217;t know all the franchisees by name, nor did I talk to them very much. Rather I relied on our older franchisees that I had a relationship with to feed the information the marketplace to help us modify our franchise business model to compete.</p>
<p>Now then, I would like to explain how old a franchisor founder can get into this trap. You see, if you are constantly talking to a small group of franchisees, they will come to you with their complaints, and you will solve their individual problems, and yet you won&#8217;t assist other franchisees with the same problem, or handle their frustrations, and therefore allow hostility to form with disgruntled franchisees, that you had no idea were out there.</p>
<p>Sometimes, it&#8217;s good to take some of those original franchisees and put them into more of a leadership position, making then the regional heads of larger groups of franchisees, and sort of a mini Franchisee Association within your organization. Therefore, franchisees that are having problems will go to them first, and then when those leadership franchisees get a number of complaints which are similar, they will come to you. I used to have a rule; &#8220;call three, then me,&#8221; in other words, talk to other franchisees first about any challenge you have, then if no one knows the answer call me personally and here&#8217;s my direct cell phone number.</p>
<p>Okay so, it&#8217;s not that I am suggesting that you need to remove yourself away from layers of management, it&#8217;s just that when the business gets bigger, you need the inflow of information, but you don&#8217;t have time to talk to each and every franchisee about their individual problems of the day, week, or month. Still, and back to the title of the article; &#8220;franchisor should avoid Special treatment.&#8221; This is very good advice because it&#8217;s so easy to do, without thinking about it.</p>
<p>If you are a franchisor and you aren&#8217;t seen as being unfair, you will lose your credibility in leadership, integrity, and the faith of your most evangelical brand loyalists; your franchisees. One way to combat this is to constantly be developing regional managers which shadow you as protégés, until they start to think like you, act like you, and come to similar decisions based on various situations, always considering what you might do in the same predicament. This way you can favor all the franchisees at the same time.</p>
<p>Still, you have to make sure that your regional managers don&#8217;t fall into the same trap. Indeed I hope you will please consider this because a franchise organization is not like a regular corporation, things are much different because each franchisee is an independent owner. They aren&#8217;t middle managers that you can command around like soldiers. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.</p>

<p>Distributors can help market, sell, and support your product. Understand that you&#8217;ll give up a piece of the pie, probably in the form of a percentage of revenue generated from sales, to have distributors support you. Some of the pros and cons of using distributors include:</p>
<p><strong>Pros</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>If you hire a distributor already in your market, they know how to sell in that market because they will have presumably already been doing so.</li>

<p>Are you ready to run a franchise but don&#8217;t know which one will be the best for you? Have you ever ran a franchise before or do you have any experience in business in general? Something that you need to understand is that starting a business is hard work and if you can do that successfully then you should easily be able to run a franchise. What most people don&#8217;t realize is that franchises have a lot of support that they will offer you and the nice thing about this is it all comes with the franchise when you buy in.</p>
<p>When it comes to franchises there are a lot of them out there and many of them are really good to run but there is one that stands out among everyone else. The franchise that always does well no matter what the economy is like is a clothing franchise and the nice thing is that the competition on these franchises is pretty slim. The reason why many people like the idea of a retail clothing franchise is because you can make small adjustments to what you sell and how you sell them and the best part is you will still obey the franchises requirements.</p>
<p>The first thing you need to understand is that a retail clothing franchise is very easy to get going and the best part is no other business out there is easier to get customers to. If you think getting customers will be hard then think about this, every person needs clothes and because of this your market is anybody that wears them. If you want to make a lot of money then you need to sell different style clothes so that you can get more people into the store, just know that the more people that walk into your store means the more money you will make. When it comes to promoting your retail store the one thing I would not avoid is word of mouth marketing because this is the one marketing strategy that really works.</p>
<p>Another thing you need to be aware of in regards to clothing franchises is they don&#8217;t take a lot to get going. A lot of people think they have to spend a hundred thousand dollars in order to run a clothing franchise when the truth is that number is not even close to that. My advice to you if you would like to start a clothing franchise is to simply call the franchise that you would like to inquire about and see what it costs. You really have nothing to lose by just calling so why not do it.</p>
<p>Another thing that you need to know about the different clothing franchises out there is a lot of them are showing up all over the place and the reason is because investors know how lucrative they can be and how easy they are to run. What most people think about business in general is that they are all very scary to get into but once you give a retail franchise a try you will see why there is nothing to be afraid of and you will probably regret that you didn&#8217;t start one sooner.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I don&#8217;t know about your business but in my experience proactive, positive, consistent new business winners are the holy grail of any sales organisation. All of my clients have their own unique ways of motivating, managing and running their sales teams yet they all have problems from time keeping those teams on target and &#8220;up for it!&#8221; In this article I am going to cover the core fundamentals of How to Develop a Proactive, New-Business Sales Team. These are the same strategies and techniques that I have used to help many of my clients explode their personal and their team&#8217;s sales. These strategies all combine an exciting and proven mix of attitudinal, skills and structural development that really works and what&#8217;s more they&#8217;re fun so your staff will want to use them!</p>
<p>When I ask my clients what stops them from achieving their business goals they tell me that they just cannot find enough staff who will consistently canvass new business and this prevents them from opening enough new accounts. Or even worse that once their staff have got &#8220;enough&#8221; business in the pipeline they will simply stop their proactive activities. This is common place in sales teams in my experience and afflicts most sales people. This reticence to pick up the phone is a combination of factors and one which I have made one of my core sales focuses so that I can provide my clients with what they need &#8211; more sales.</p>
<p>When we talk about sales teams we tend to talk about skills, strategies and experience. Whilst these are important they aren&#8217;t the key. We&#8217;ve all recruited someone who&#8217;s been there, seen it and done it yet when they turn up in your business they just seem to leave their skills at home! You know the type &#8211; the &#8220;big-hitter&#8221; you recruit because of their CV and their ability. You&#8217;re already counting the increased revenue onto the bottom line yet right from their first day you know that their attitude&#8217;s shot! I&#8217;m sure you can think of your own examples&#8230;</p>
<p>What&#8217;s missing is sales motivation &#8211; the ability to access the sales skills that we have within us. Anyone can pick up the phone and say &#8220;Hello&#8221; to a client even if they don&#8217;t know how to structure a call and a salesperson with high sales motivation will. A salesperson with low sales motivation however will often avoid the phone at any cost giving &#8220;reasons&#8221; for not doing so such as &#8220;I don&#8217;t have the time&#8221;, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know the market well enough&#8221; or &#8220;I am too busy&#8221; &#8230; the list goes on!</p>
<p><strong>Sales motivation has three areas that are crucial to the success of your new business teams:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Being motivated to want to sell</li>
<li>Remaining motivated during the sale</li>
<li>Re-motivating yourself after the sale whether the sales went well or badly</li>
</ul>
<p>Helping sales staff to understand their own sales motivation levels before they pick up the phone, coaching them in core skills whilst they are on the phone and reflecting with them whilst they learn after the call is essential to creating a successful sales engine. This holistic approach ensures that you will get results fast.</p>
<p>So what&#8217;s wrong with good old training?</p>
<p>Well, there&#8217;s nothing actually wrong with training in of itself. It&#8217;s what your staff do with it that counts. When you think about it, the training is worth nothing if your staff don&#8217;t use it to get results. And that&#8217;s what you need &#8211; action and results!</p>
<p>Lets imagine that a person goes to a specialist doctor with a bad back. After the examination the doctor says that he thinks that they should do 20 minutes of exercises every day. The patient complains and says that they want some painkillers. The doctor repeats his advice but the patient is adamant. After a small negotiation the doctor prescribes some painkillers but says &#8220;remember to do your exercises&#8221;. Three months later when the patient returns to the doctor with an even worse back and he admits that he never did the exercises whose fault is it?</p>
<p>You need to find ways of working with your teams to get phenomenal results not to prescribe pills. Anyone can pop pills!</p>
<p>OK! So how do I do this?</p>
<p>In working with many leading organisations I&#8217;ve found that most sales training is too complicated for many sales staff to assimilate and use on a day to day basis. You need to start by implementing simple, repeatable, manageable processes and techniques. We all know that for a successful business common sense must be common practise. You need to focus on simple things that will have an immediate impact on the ability of your staff to win new business now. Just imagine your team reaching new clients, pitching new decision-makers and having more success utilising strong opening statements, getting past gatekeepers, handling objections and building effortless rapport!</p>
<p>Some studies show that 83% of sales are made because people like each other! When your sales teams hit the phones with the right attitudes, the necessary core skills and the ability to build rapport they will rapidly get results. This first contact with new clients not only defines your company but also dictates how seriously you will be taken. How many times have you seen your staff get passed down the line by a client to later be told that the decision-maker was actually the first person they spoke with? As you know, this is usually because the sales person wasn&#8217;t taken seriously enough in the first place. With these core strategies under their belts this will become a thing of the past.</p>
<p>But that&#8217;s not enough! You&#8217;ll have to put systems and strategies in place to get your sales team to do these things on a daily basis. I would call doing what you know works &#8211; professionalism. Unfortunately however, sales people spend a lot of time talking about professionalism but very little actually delivering it. If you had an administration person in your company but they refused to file alphabetically you&#8217;d pretty quickly remove them from the payroll! But with sales people we let them go on for years and years doing everything wrong whilst they make the excuse of being an individual or having charisma! You must not let this happen in your business. Ironically, as you implement these structures and they start to take effect the morale in your teams will rise as staff realise that they are doing something worthwhile.</p>
